大学毕业后为什么想去支教？

What motivated you to become a volunteer teacher after you graduated from college?

我觉得志愿性质的活动首先可以做贡献，其次可以锻炼人。所以支教的机会一出现，就努力去争取了。

I consider volunteer opportunities a great way to give back and to build one’s character. So, when the opportunity appeared, I went for it.

在泰国支教，有哪些不寻常的体验和收获？

Did you have any unusual experiences in Thailand?

和其他国家相比，泰国的条件已经算好了，但还是有些让人心有余悸的经历。当时是学校安排的住宿，打开后门就是湿地。有一次，眼睁睁看着从门缝滑进一条蛇，赶紧打电话叫人过来处理。第二次蛇再来光临，我就自己拿着扫帚簸箕把它给请出去了。

There were countries with less favorable conditions than Thailand. However, I did have some spine-chilling moments during my stint there. There was a body of swamp behind my rented house. Once, a snake slithered in under the door right in front of my eyes. I panicked and called for help. But when that happened for the second time, I had already learned how to deal with it: I calmly scooped it up in a dustpan and set it free into the swamp.

都去过哪里旅行？旅行给你带来了什么？

Which countries have you visited? What have you got out of travelling?

除了泰国，还去过印度尼西亚、马来西亚、新加坡、以色列和约旦。旅行让我开拓了视野，增长了见识，还让我变得更加包容和开明。

I have been to Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Israel and Jordan. Travelling has rewarded me with experiences, knowledge, revelations, and open-mindedness.

联合国的工作与你个人的哪些特质相符？

Why do you think your job here at the UN is the right fit for you?

我觉得在联合国工作很符合我对为善的追求。

Working for the UN is compatible with my pursuit of the good.

你是什么时候发现自己对语言感兴趣的？

When did you discover your talent for languages?

初中时，老师带着我们演英语小话剧，讲英语相声，寓教于乐，不亦乐乎，在我心里埋下了学习语言的快乐种子。

我曾经离开联合国近二十年，在金融行业工作了近十年, 然后又回到自己热爱的这个职业。误入歧途，但迷途知返，此生大幸也！

In middle school, we used to produce small plays and do stand up comedy in English. It was so much fun. I guess that's when I fell in love with the art of language.

I was away from the UN for nearly twenty years, during which time I worked in the financial sector for ten years. I feel truly lucky to have returned to the job I love after having done something that did not really suit me.

来联合国工作后，遇到最大挑战是什么? 是如何克服的？

What’s your biggest challenge working at the UN and how do you overcome it?

联合国文件翻译，有时是个“枯燥”活儿，对人的注意力、意志力都是考验。我从把文章翻得“漂亮”中得到满足，给自己鼓劲儿。另外还要注意劳逸结合，保障睡眠，多运动，保持充沛体力。

Sometimes, translating certain UN documents can be quite tedious. I try to cheer myself up by producing especially apt translations that I feel proud of. I also ensure that I get adequate sleep and plenty of exercise in order to maintain a high level of energy.

工作之余，有什么兴趣爱好？

What do you do in your spare time?

因为生长在文艺家庭，特别喜欢唱歌，对文艺的热爱流淌在血液里。另外我还爱好写诗、朗诵、打篮球。兴趣爱好和工作是一样的，都是在尊重自己的基础上，自然而然地去发掘。

As I grew up in an artistic family, I love singing and all forms of art. I also like writing poems and playing basketball. Choosing hobbies is no different from choosing a career: both need to be rooted in self-respect and acceptance.

你最喜欢的格言/警句是？

What’s your motto in life?

“心中有快乐，所见皆快乐；心中有幸福，所见皆幸福。”

你什么时候发现自己对语言感兴趣？

When did you discover your talent for languages?

从小学开始学英语，从英语实验班到外国语学校，再到外语保送至英语翻译专业，对语言的热爱从未被熄灭。

I started learning English when I was little, and it was always my best subject at school. My passion for languages has never dwindled no matter what I do.

你的联合国之路如何开始的？

How did you start your journey at the UN?

我2015年进入联合国实习，作为总部实习生代表向前秘书长潘基文发表演讲，为实习画上圆满的句号。能够作为一个小小载体将中国和中文在联合国传递出去，我觉得很有意义。

I interned with the UN in 2015. When I finished my internship, I delivered a speech to the former SG as the representative of all the interns. Being able to represent my country and culture at such an event meant a lot to me.

每天的工作中，最喜欢的时刻？

What are your favorite moments at work?

我最喜欢每次帮助同事解决问题后，同事们的笑脸，成就感满分。

I love seeing the smiles of colleagues after I’ve helped solve a problem for them. That’s the best moment for me.

在联合国工作最大的挑战是什么? 你如何克服？

What’s your biggest challenge at work? How do you overcome it?

和之前在创业公司的工作经验相比，联合国的工作方法和工作环境非常不同。但我相信startup是一种精神，我用startup的精神把每一项工作出色地完成，以此找到平衡点。

The UN has a very different way of working compared to the startup company where I worked previously. I believe that startup is a spirit. I use that spirit to deliver every task with excellence.

我喜欢跳HipPop，爬山，在家逗猫。

I like hiking or playing with my cat. I’m also a hip-hop dancer.

我用startup的精神把每一项工作出色地完成，以此找到平衡点。

I try to deliver every task with excellence by maintaining a “startup spirit”.

联合国工作对你有什么特别的意义？

Does the UN job have any special meaning to you?

从前，只是简单的工作——挣钱——养家。来到联合国后，尽管依旧是工作——挣钱——养家，但更关心因污染给地球带来的危害，也更关注那些因战争而流离失所的人。联合国的工作让我更多地思考生活：世界和平——家庭和美——身心健康，这些都息息相关。

In the past, I worked to simply make money and support my family. At the UN, however, I began to care more about issues like pollution and people displaced by wars. The UN job inspired me to reflect on the meaning of life. I realized that a happy family, a healthy body and mind, and world peace are all interconnected.

工作之余我喜欢绘画。一草一木，一花一石，都是有生命的。她们并不起眼，却顽强而美丽。绘画的过程也是我与这些生命相互感染的过程。

I spend lots of time painting after work. Each flower, each tree or rock — they all embody life. They are inconspicuous but have amazing strength and beauty. Painting is a process in which I learn from them and become one with them.

A contented mind is a perpetual feast.

无忧无虑的乐天派！我的愿望是让自己天天快乐，然后把这份快乐传递给周围的人。

A carefree, happy-go-lucky type of person. My wish is to be happy every day, and then transmit that joy to the people around me.
