影视人类学家及电影理论家，在东非、澳大利亚、意大利撒丁岛和印度摄制民族志电影。1973－74年，与妻子茱迪斯·麦克杜格在东非肯尼亚共同制作了《婚礼上的骆驼》（1977）在内的“图尔卡纳对话”三部曲，此后摄制了关于印度照片的电影《拍照片的人》（1991）和《意识》（2010）以及关于澳大利亚土著社区的八部电影，如，《接管》（1980）、《阳光与暗房》（1986）。其他的影片还有《和牧群一起生活》（1972）《服务生的年代》（1993）、《学校景观》（2007）及《宫墙之下》（2014）。1997－2000年，他主持一项在北印度杜恩学校的研究，制作了《杜恩学校纪事》（2000）及四部电影，接着摄制了关于印度南部瑞诗谷学校的影片《学校景观》以及有关新德里流浪儿童收容所的影片《甘地的孩子》（2008）。同时，他还撰写了大量影视人类学学术论文及三部著作：《跨文化的电影》（1998）、《有形的影像》（2006）、《看的机器》（2019年即将出版）。目前，他为堪培拉澳大利亚国立大学文人艺术研究院荣誉教授，并在这里主持最近的《儿童与现代性》研究，本项目鼓励印度孩子在他们自己的社区中从事视觉研究。

安德烈·辛格于牛津大学获得人类学博士之后，开始了人类学与电影制作的双轨职业生涯。以研究者、制片人、导演、监制、责任编辑的身份，他在纪录电影领域从事长达40年的研究。从《正在消失的世界》的资深编导，到BBC纪录片部独立单元的负责人，他有丰富的纪录片制作经验，还曾在BBC纪录片部建立纪录片“精剪”系列（后成为“故事谷”）。他曾与国际著名电影人合作，如，让·鲁什（Jean Rouch），沃纳·赫尔佐格（Werner Herzog），彭尼贝克（D.B.
