Could it be that Singapore is such a tiny red dot that Singaporeans, being bi-lingual, travel widely to China and the west pretty often? They can interact with the locals in China and the west without filters. As such their views are less biased and more in tune with the realities on the ground. I would trust their assessment of China and the west more because they do not carry any historical baggage.

There is an element of truth there. As a Singaporean Chinese, I have travelled extensively to both China and the West. And so do many Singaporeans who too have travelled to both China and the West. We are also generally bilingual and able to discern truth from the news sources from both China and the Western Media and relate to our experiences in these countries.

As a result, many Singaporeans like me can tell that China’s rise has made the West and Western Media become xenophobic and paranoid. The reason is obvious: Many Westerners have not been to China and are only fed with “fake” news from their biased Western news media. So their views are tainted by all this anti-China propaganda.

Surprisingly I know of a few fellow Singaporeans who have never been to China that share the same negative, anti-China sentiments as their Western counterparts.

However it is my strong belief that with the digital social media on the rise, the days of dominance of the traditional western mass media are numbered. It is losing its power to influence people's minds and thoughts. The massive array of social media platforms like Quora provides alternative channels of news that are more in tune with realities on the ground and the Netizens are certainly intelligent enough to make an informed judgement on what is true and what is false.

What proof do I have? I speak to my friends and they tell me usually they get their latest news from the interactive social media rather than sourcing the untrustworthy news from printed media, radio and TV broadcasts and film and music studios.

说得有道理的。作为一个新加坡华人，我去过中国和西方很多地方。很多新加坡人也去过中国和西方。我们一般会双语，能够从中国和西方媒体的新闻来源，并结合我们在这些国家的经验来辨别真相。

因此，许多像我这样的新加坡人都知道，中国的崛起让西方和西方媒体变得仇外和偏执。原因很明显:许多西方人没有去过中国，只听了来自他们有偏见的西方新闻媒体的“假”新闻。所以他们的观点被所有这些反华宣传玷污了。

令人惊讶的是，我认识的一些从未去过中国的新加坡人，和他们的西方同行一样有着负面的反华情绪。

Other than China, Singapore is the only Chinese majority country in the world. Most of the Chinese in Singapore still have relatives and friends in China and had maintained close ties with the common people in China. Over the past few decades, we had seen with our own eyes the tremendous improvement of wealth and prosperity that the Chinese government had provided for their people so we are mostly immune to the lies of the western media. We might have believed some of the lies at the beginning, but we are able to ask our relatives and friends in China and find out the truth for ourselves.

I think it has to do with race… I mean there is Chinese saying “ Never forget the source of the water when you drink of it”. We are Chinese Singaporeans but we never forgot our ancestors came from China. And Singapore being majority populated by people of Chinese ethnicity, this comes as no surprise. Furthermore Singaporeans are asians and we don’t see the values of the US ( western) the same as ours. we also don’t have the baggage of history like Taiwan so thus.

Peoples around the world are not blind, deaf or even all morons. It is very clear that the west ganged up and attacking China, not because China is a bad guy but because China now is a tech powerhouse overtaking the west. The bad guys in this world are THE WEST AND JAPAN THAT CAUSED WW2.KILLING TENTH OF MILLION OF INNOCENT PEOPLES. The west attacking and invaded Asia, Africa, latin America and Middle East and enslaved the peoples.
