“一物”是喻意对物料的专注与执着,亦可说是艺术家通过对事物的观察、理解、反思、演绎及沉淀的创作过程,属一种修行。南北朝弘忍大师认为佛宗的“一物”,便是坚决不妥协,贯彻自己原则的处事风格。
今次展览展出戚彧、李荣林及李秀美三位艺术家的代表作品,均反映他们处理物料的极至,以及升华出来的独特个人风格,亦展现艺术家不凡的艺术成就。
厦门艺术家戚彧父亲是陶瓷艺术家,身上就带有陶瓷的基因,但他成功地把传统的物料转化成符号,构建他的当代艺术创作。戚彧坚持承传陶瓷文化,致力建立陶瓷的当代语言。艺术家运用陶瓷碎片拼合成抽象画,细致丰富的肌理隐透充满节奏的动态,远观又显露现代简约的纯净,可算是陶瓷端庄气韵的重新演绎。另方面戚彧以陶瓷创作的装置作品更直接挪用当代艺术的手法与观念,为陶瓷艺术带来新的面貌。

韩国艺术家李荣林则专注以木材作为创作物料,钻研作品与空间的交互作用。她的装置有若在空气挥毫,以颜色木料把立体空间转化。艺术家亦巧妙地拼合木块创作架上作品,不同形态及色彩的木片像笔触组成半立体的抽象画,更往往留出穿孔的部份作为焦点,有如水墨留白的意趣,加上相对融和的颜色组合,是成功结合西方及东方美学的创作方向,在强烈现代感的造型中带了一点委婉,把冲突与协调并置。

韩国艺术家李秀美就巧妙地转化物料的属性创作带感性的作品。她金属结合古木及家具的雕塑系列,就把金属化身蕾丝改变原来的刚硬性质,与木料有机地融合起来,构成调和之美。她另一主要系列是骷髅与蚂蚁为主题的金属雕塑,这些探讨生死观的作品在艺术家的优美造型下并不恐怖,正显露她调和对立性的创作哲学。

三位艺术家作品视觉效果很不一样,各自精彩,但均致力发挥及转化物料的艺术属性,并在东西问道的过程中发展出自身艺术面貌。展览一方面作为中韩艺术交流活动,亦希望透过他们的杰出作品呈现艺术创作中专注与坚持的一致性。

"One OBJECT" (direct translation of exhibition title) is referring to the concentration and persistence in usage of materials. It can also refer to the artist's creative process through observation, understanding, reflection, expression, and sinking of ideas, also known as a practice. The master of the Northern and Southern Dynasties, Hong Ren, believed that the "One OBJECT" in the Buddhism is to resolutely not compromise, but implement the principles of our own.
This exhibition will show us the representative works by three artists - Qi Yu, Lee Young Rim and Lee Soomi, reflecting their unique ways of handlings of materials and escalation of their unique personal styles. They also show their extraordinary artistic achievements.
The Xiamen artist Qi Yu’s father is a ceramic artist, he born with ceramic gene. However, he succeeded in transforming traditional materials into symbols, to construct his contemporary art creation. Qi Yu insists to succeed the ceramic culture and strive to establish a contemporary language of ceramics. The artist uses ceramic fragments to assemble as an abstract painting, and the delicate and rich texture is full of rhythmic dynamics. The far-sightedness reveals the purity of modern simplicity, which can be regarded as the reinterpretation of ceramic dignity. On the other hand, his installation created by ceramics directly employ the techniques and concepts of contemporary art, which has brought a new look to ceramic art.

Korean artist Lee Young Rim however focuses on using wood as a creative material to look further into the interaction between her works and space. Her installation has the ability to transform the three-dimensional space with color wood as if she painted in the air. The artist also skillfully combines the wood pieces into semi two-dimension works. The wood chips of different shapes and colors act as brush strokes of abstract painting, and often leave the perforated part as the focus, like the ink paintings leaving imagination of blank. In addition, the relatively harmonious color combination also demonstrates the successful combination of Western and Oriental aesthetics. It shows a little euphemism in the strong modern sense and leverage of contrast and harmony at the same time.

Korean artist Lee Soomi has on the other hand cleverly transformed the attributes of materials to create sensible works. Her sculpture series combined metal work and antique wood and furniture. The transformation of cold metal into lace changes its original nature of tough, and organically blended with the wood to form a harmonious beauty. Her other major series is the metal sculptures with the theme of skulls and ants. These works that explore the concept of life and death are not terrifying under her elegant style, and are also revealing her creative philosophy of reconciliation.

The visual effects of the works of these three artists are very different, each of them is wonderful, but all dedicated to transformation of the materials in an artistic way, and develop their own artistic features in the process of adopting Western and Oriental cultures. The exhibition serves as an exchange of art between China and South Korea, and on the other hand it also hopes to show the consistency of concentration and persistence in artistic creation through their outstanding works.

梁兆基,香港著名的策展人,自2003年起,以积极创新的态度,策划超过80个艺术项目。他于2005年起策划“出炉艺术毕业生联展” 以及2008年发起“香港雕塑双年展”,以此推广年轻艺术家。他于2016年获香港特别行政区民政事务局局长颁授“对文化艺术发展有杰出贡献人士”称号。现为香港雕塑学会会员及香港艺术网络主席。
Eric Leung is a well-known curator in Hong Kong, As an active and innovative curator and art consultant , Eric Leung has organized more than 80 art projects since 2003.Leung initiated “Hong Kong Sculpture Biennial” in 2008 and “Fresh Trend Art Graduates Joint Exhibition” series since 2005 to promote young artists. He was awarded “Persons with Outstanding Contributions to the Development of Arts and Culture” by Secretary for Home Affairs, HKSAR in 2016. Presently Leung is the broad member of Hong Kong Sculpture Society and chairman of Hong Kong Art Network.
