South asia is a really big region with diversity.
Let me tell you stats of 2021
South asia
Population 1.8 billion
3.7 trllion nominal gdp
2100 gdp per capita nominal
Southeast asia
Population 660 million
3.2 trillion nominal gdp
5200 gdp per capita nominal

As you can see india has the almost same gdp(3.1 trillion) as southeast asia with double Population (1.39 billion). So I would like to compare india with southeast asia.
If you remove Singapore and Malaysia you won't find much difference between india and rest South east asian countries although they are a bit cleaner.
The government of South east asian countries are very curropt although there are hardworking people they get exploited.
Education is weak in this region .
Except india and bangladesh other countries aren't growing.

Both the regions have been destroyed by colonisation.
Talent is immense in both places.
South-east asia have an advantage of many growing economies , investment and exports .
They started their development before india so are ahead in gdp per capita.
India had been doing considerably good after 2017 and now is growing faster in all sectors. Covid 19 happy great impact on economic growth of india .
South east regions have a better human resource than india but that doesn't mean indians are useless . We have a lot of brainy guys in our country.
BUT THE REAL DEVIL IS BRAIN DRAIN ( GOOGLE IT IF YOU DONT KNOW)
Rural life must be improved in india thats the main thing because southeast asian villages are better than Indian villages.
Infrastructure is good in cities like noida , banglore , Hyderabad, gurugram , Mumbai, surat.
Mumbai is dirty so we are trying hard to improve this and rest metropolitan cities are clean to same level as southeast asia.

For now asean is doing great and are better than india but trust me we will equalise this gap within a decade. Although reaching Singapore and Malaysia level are very hard.
Hope for good collaboration with asean and good future for rest SAARC countries.

Because the brunt of colonization was overall worse in South Asia than in Southeast Asia. Those countries such as Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam(former French Indochina) and Myanma were all colonizedr, are as poor as South Asia.
In Southeast Asia, a lot of the economy was built by Chinese immigrants. And as China's economy built up, so did southeast Asia's correspondingly.
