Looking for relatives in SingaporeChinese Liu Clan Association in Singapore,I am so happy to write to you! I am a resident of Xinwu Tun, Wuwei Village, Fengshan Town, Bobai County, Yulin City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China. The reason why I write this letter is that I really want you to help us find our relatives in Singapore.

My great grandfather Liu Chaofu, great granduncle Liu Chaoqing, left home at different times in 1895 to make a living in Southeast Asia. For a long time, we Chinese relatives could not get in touch with their descendants. We have always been concerned about our overseas relatives and sincerely hope that our overseas relatives would return home to visit their relatives and friends.

The following information is what my father Liu Taoguang told me, and I sorted out.My great grandfather Liu Chaofu, born in 1870s, was the 12nd child in the family. In 1895, he married his wife Miss Qi and in 1895 they had a son named Liu Dianshen. Liu Chaoqing, my great granduncle, was born in 1870s, was the 14st child in the family, married Miss Huang, who gave birth to a girl named Liu Dianin in 1895.

Great grandfather and great granduncle’s father’s name is Liu Huiyou, the 33rd child in the family, their mother’s family name is Ye. My uncle Liu Hui, the 27th child. Liu Chaofu and Liu Chaoqing’s grandfather’s name is Liu Yongbin, who has four brothers.Liu Chaofu left home to make a living in Southeast Asia about 100 days after his son was born, and Liu Chaoqing left home to make a living there about 30 days after his daughter was born.

In 1895, the brothers left home at different times to earn a living. Their families had been looking around for information about their whereabouts. In 1945 (the brothers were about 70 years old at that time), a man from Hechun, Guangdong Province returned to his hometown from Southeast Asia, brought back three silver coins on behalf of Liu Chaofu or Liu Chaoqing ( can’t remember clearly). The man came with the brothers’ message whether there were any descendants at home and whether they were allowed to return to their hometown.

They wanted someone to write to reply, the address was No. 108 Haima Road, Fuhai Bian Street, Furong, Singapore (or West Malaysia). Later, My uncle Liu Taowan who was about 20 years old wanted to asked someone to write a reply in the village, but no one knew how to write, so my uncle did not get a timely reply to his great grandfather and great granduncle, which resulted in the loss of contact.

After the liberation of the people’s Republic of China in 1949, relatives on the mainland continued to search for information about their overseas relatives in different ways, with no result. In 1984, my father sent a letter according to the address left by the Cantonese. A month later, a Singapore Post Office returned the letter and said that the address and didn’t exist, nor did the person.

Up to now, we turn to the Chinese Liu clan association in Singapore for help. Though with a little hope, we write to you and want you to do your best to help us find our lost relatives. My family and I would like to express our heartfelt thanks for your hard work! We will never forget the hard work that Liu clan association has done for us!
