此次画展是艺术家王超群在上海的首次个展，也是物舍画廊的首场展览。以艺术家的名字作为本次展览的主题，既是对艺术家和画廊的称誉，也是我对其作品的一种理解。“超群”语出《淮南子·缪称训》：“同师而超羣者，必其乐之者也。”在这里，“超群”是一种意识，一种视野。
王超群作为一名85后艺术家，绘画是他的语言，作品是他对生活的理解、想象和情感的堆积。画面中视觉图像全面或部分的呈现，平涂式的绘画技巧，三维的视觉体验，纯粹的色彩是他快速扑捉画面的独特风格。他的画面中还暗含一种幽默，王超群的幽默不同于活泼、不等于贫，不似于风趣，是智慧的至高表现，是当下人对生活的一种态度。想要拥有这类特质必须有丰富的阅历，高效的信息处理能力，对事物多方位的认知以及对世界敏锐的触觉和嗅觉，这样才能自如的体现幽默。在漫长的积累、创作与探索中，王超群以不同视角出发，描绘着他的“超群”意识。
This is Wushe Gallery’s opening exhibition, as well as Wang Chaoqun’s first solo exhibition in Shanghai. The title of the exhibition, “Chaoqun”, also the name of the artist, meaning “outstanding”, is intended to pay tribute to both the artist and the gallery. It is also an interpretation of the works. “Outstanding” originates from the philosophical book Huai Nan Tzu, “One that stands out among his school fellows must enjoy learning.” Here, “outstanding” is a kind of consciousness and vision.
To the young contemporary artist, painting is his language. His understanding, imagination and emotional accumulation of life are presented comprehensively or partially through these visual images. His unique style is to capture the images swiftly with the plain painting technique, three-dimensional visual experience and pure colors. There is a concealed humor in his picture, which is not liveliness, loquaciousness or funniness, but the supreme expression of wisdom and an
attitude toward life. To be humorous, one must have experienced a lot, be able to process information efficiently, have multifaceted cognition of things, and have a keen sense of touch and smell. In the long process of accumulation, creation and exploration, Wang is depicting his “outstanding” consciousness from different perspectives.
